MINUTES of
BOARD MEETING of JUNE 1, 2011
TIME 1930 -- CONVENED BOARD MEETING
Steve Ruhl, BPAA President, as presiding officer, convened the June 1, 2011 Board Meeting.
Other Board Members present were:
Charles Higgins, Vice President
Malcolm Saunders, Chief Astronomer
Russell M. Heglund, Secretary
Nels Johansen, Facilities Officer
Absent: Dave Fong, Education Officer
Frank Schroer, Treasurer
BPAA Bylaws require five Board Members be present to constitute a quorum, therefore a quorum was present.
Visitor: Dave Janich, new member.
TIME 1937 -- Reading of May 4, 2011 Board Meeting Minutes
R. Heglund, Secretary, read minutes of May 4, 2011 Board Meetin.
N. Johansen moved/S. Ruhl seconded, to approve the minutes as read. Passed.
TIME 1943 -- President's Report
S. Ruhl reports: The Telescope Class is going well. About 14 to 15 students show up for every class. We have gotten telescopes out a couple of times.
Mac Gardiner (a founder of the BPAA) died on May 20th. I went to the the funeral service. Should BPAA do something (to honor him)?
M. Saunders: I thik we should do something.
R. Heglund: Maybe re-name the Library Mac and Helen Gardiner Library.....and get a better plaque to put up in the Library (to that effect).
N. Johansen: We should publish something (about Mac, etc....)
R. Heglund: We could put a permanent plaque outside at the entrance.....with something about the founders...
Board consensus: The outside plaque sounds good......present an example at next Board Meeting for Board consideration.
R. Heglund: OK
S. Ruhl: There were about 45 people at the last Star Party (in May, 2011).
TIME 1954 -- Vice President's Report
C. Higgins reports: I plan to get a letter off to Terry Lande, Exec of Parks Dept. Lande said he would get maintenance people together in June (to look over our proposed Sundial).
TIME 1955 -- Treasurer's Report (---No Report---)
S. Ruhl reports: The Treasurer (F. Schroer) will send us the Treasurer's Report by e'mail on June 11, 2011.
TIME 1956 -- Secretary's Report
R. Heglund reports: I estimate the frames for the Planets (of the Solar Walk) will cost about $100.00.
S. Ruhl: If cost goes over $100, contact us (the Board).
TIME 1957 -- Facilities Officer's Report
N. Johansen reports: On Saturday I plan to build the fence around the Honey Bucket.
TIME 2000 -- Chief Astronomer's Report
M. Saunders reports: No Report.
TIME 2003 -- 4TH OF JULY BOOTH
S. Ruhl: No Solar Telescope this time. Maybe we should set a telescope on the Losmandy mount for a demo.....slew around and show laptop control.
TIME 2008 -- ADJOURNMENT
S. Ruhl moved/C. Higgins seconded, to Adjourn the Meeting. Passed.
