BOARD MEETING of JULY 5, 2012
Time 19:08 -- Convened Board Meeting
Steve Ruhl, as presiding officer, convened the BPAA Board Meeting at 19:08 on July 5, 2012.
Other Board Members present were:
Russell M. Heglund, Secretary
Malcolm Saunders, Chief Astronomer
Dave Fong, Education Officer
Vicki Saunders, Communications Officer
Absent Board Members were:
Frank Schroer, Treasurer
Nels Johansen, Facilities Officer
(Charles Higgins, Vice President resigned at previous Board Meeting.)
BPAA Bylaws require five Board Members be present to constitute a quorum, therefore a quorum was present.
No absentee votes were submitted.
Time 19:09 -- Reading of June 13, 2012 Board Meeting Minutes.
R. Heglund read minutes of June 13 Board Meeting.
S. Ruhl moved/D. Fong seconded to approve the minutes as corrected. Passed.
Time 19:17 -- President's Report
S. Ruhl reports: Arlen of the Parks Dept. has retired. Dan has replaced him and is trying to get together with me and work on a new contract (lease) with BPAA. I will work on it this week.
The Odyssey School came by...with two groups of about 35 people each. The Museum of Flight is coming July 12th. The Tacoma YMCA shows are on August 8th and 9th.
Time 19:25 -- Treasurer's Report
S. Ruhl: Frank Schroer said he will do it later this week.
Time 19:26 -- Membership Report
S. Ruhl: Memberships are up to 84.
Time 19:27 -- Secretary's Report
R. Heglund reports: At the July 4th booth we took in $168.00 in donations for the Sundial Project. Also took in two memberships (Paul Paison & Romonica Espadero family .... and Rebecca Cooper).
I checked the Post Office box for mail and noted the PO Box rent is due.....

M. Saunders reports: I haven't spoken to the STEM guy yet....but I will soon.
Time 19:39 --- Education Officer's Report
D. Fong reports: The "Lore of the Night Sky" will be the next Planetarium Show (on July 14th at 08:30 pm).
Time 19:44 -- Communication Officer's Report
V. Saunders reports: I will talk to Bay Hay & Feed about the T-Shirts tomorrow. I wrote a letter to Woody Sullivan (U of W Astronomy Professor) about possibly doing an article or event about Sundial Project...
Time 20:12 -- Re-Cap of July 4th Booth
M. Saunders: Solar telescope may need a wide field eyepiece --- seems to have too small a field of view.
S. Ruhl: contact coronado and get suggestions from them.
S. Ruhl: The Bluegrass Festival will be held on July 28 ( Note: they set their stage against the north wall of the Observatory.)
Time 20:22 -- Board Member Nels Johansen arrives.
D. Fong: We should provide snacks for our volunteers. I will do Planetarium Shows all day, short ones.
M. Saunders: Should we do Solar Telescope next to the Sundial (model).
S. Ruhl: Probaly set Solar Telescopes up next to the Observatory. Dave Fong will be lead for the Bluegrass Festival support.
R. Heglund: I will contact Bill about setting-up the Sundail Model on the berm for the Festival.
