MINUTES of
BOARD MEETING of MAY 2, 2012
Time 19:15 -- Convened Board Meeting
Steve Ruhl, as presiding Officer, convened the Board Meeting at 19:15 on May 2, 2012.
Other Board Members present:
Malcolm Saunders, Chief Astronomer
Russell M. Heglund, Secretary
Charles Higgins, Vice President
Vicki Saunders, Communications Officer
Absent Board Members were:
Frank Schroer, Treasurer
Dave Fong, Education Officer
Nels Johansen, Facilities Officer
BPAA Bylaws require five Board Members be present to constitute a quorum, therefore a quorum was present.
No absentee votes were submitted.
Time 19:16 -- Reading of April 4, 2012 Board Minutes
R. Heglund read minutes of April 4, 2012 Board Minutes.
C. Higgins moved/M. Saunders seconded, that minutes be approved as read. Passed.
Time 19:20 -- President's Report
S. Ruhl reports: The Bainbridge High School special education class visited on April 27th. The Museum of Flight is coming on the 12th of July and the 9th of August. The Carden School will come on May 7th. We had clear skys at the last Planetarium/Star Party show.
Time 19:25 -- Vice President's Report
C. Higgins reports: We had some motion to the Parks and Recreation (sundial agreement). They had no problem with our recommendations and their lawyer is presently drawing it up.
Bill Baran-Mickle said he would put up the Sundial model for the Solar Eclipse May 20...and for the Transit of Venus event on June 5th. I contacted Winslow Green. I have also been in contact with a STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) guy for the School District. He is really interested in Sundials.

S. Ruhl reports: Frank Schroer said the Treasurer's Report will be out this weekend.

Time 19:38 -- Secretary's Report
R. Heglund reports: I am making some adjustments to our Sundial Kits and hope to have them ready for our Eclipse event.
Time 19:45 -- Chief Astronomer's Report
M. Saunders reports: A Kingston High School teacher wants to bring some students (about five students) to the Observatory around June 15th. (note: they want to do some observing through the Ritchie Telescope)
Time 19:46 -- Communication's Officer Report
V. Saunders reports: I will be at a Chicago convention and want to delay (newsletter?).
Time 19:48 -- Winslow Green
S. Ruhl: Winslow Green seems OK with (sidewalk astronomy). Got a permission slip from them....they want $50.00.
Time 20:00 -- Outside Plaque
V. Saunders: Nels is getting a frame made for the Outside Plaque. I will bake a Herschell Cake (for a celebration party) and invite Dave Berfield (who made the Outside Plaque).
Time 20:02 -- Adjournment
M. Saunders moved/C. Higgins seconded, that the Board Meeting be adjourned. Passed.
