MINUTES of
BOARD MEETING of FEBRUARY 3, 2010
Time: 1913 -- Convened Board Meeting
President Harry Colvin, as presiding officer, convened the BPAA Board Meeting at 1913 on February 3, 2010.
Other Board Members present were:
Mike Browning, Vice President
Russell M. Heglund, Secretary
Frank Schroer, Treasurer
Nels Johansen, Facilities Officer
Malcolm Saunders, Chief Astronomer
Steve Ruhl, Education Officer
The BPAA Bylaws require five Board Members be present to constitute a quorum, therefore a quorum was present.

Time 1914 -- Reading of Previous Board Meeting Minutes
Minutes of the January 13, 2010 Board Meeting were read by Russell M. Heglund, Secretary.
H. Colvin moved/M. Saunders seconded, to approve the minutes as read. Passed.
Time 1915 -- Reading of Annual Meeting Minutes
Minutes of the January 13, 2010 BPAA Annual Meeting were read by Russell M. Heglund, Secretary.
H. Colvin moved/S. Ruhl seconded, to approve the Annual Meeting minutes as read. Passed.
Time 1927 -- President's Report
H. Colvin reports: We are in the process of replacing me. I can't be here for the March (Board) meeting. We have a meeting planned to meet the prospective Vice President.
Time 1928 -- Vice President's Report (see attached)
M. Browning reports: I am following-up on the NSF Grant. Our Grant (request) was evaluated yesterday. I have a draft letter to Congressional Representative J. Inslee, asking for his support. I am going to send in another request for an intern, from University of Washington. Concerning the (Battle Point Park) Master Plan, I won't know status until March-April timeframe....when I can sit down with the consutant and Parks people. The public was interested in historical plaques at the master plan meetings. Our architect could integrate the Sundial and Solar Walk to present to Parks and the Parks Consultant.
Time 1946 -- Treasurer's Report (see attached)
F. Schroer reports: Total current assets as of January 31, 2010 is $25,642.14.
H. Colvin: I have submitted the following two bills to Treasurer for reimbursement:
$44.98 for stamps and $162.90 for (awards) plaques.
H. Colvin moved/N. Johansen seconded, to approve the Treasurer's Report. Passed.
Time 2022 -- Membership Report (see attached)
F. Schroer Reports: As of Feb 3, 2010 we have 91 total memberships (42 family/40 individual/5 junior/1 teacher/3 lifetime).
No new membership's this month.
M. Browning: Maybe we need to talk about: What are benefits for members.
F. Schroer: What a membership (role) should look like....should be discussed.
Time 2024
Vicki Saunders: The Newsletter deadline is February 10th. I will show people my revisions, if any, if they get articals to me on time.
H. Colvin: We need someone to (work on) getting outside speakers.
Time 2026 -- Support of Sundial Project
R. Heglund reports: I would like to propose a motion of continued support of Bill Baran-Mickle's Sundial Design and it's installation. We said in February 2009 that we would give him a years support, subject to renewal.
S. Ruhl moved/M. Browning seconded, to continue support of Bill Baran-Mickle's Sundial design and installation. Passed.
Time 2027 -- Facilities Report
N. Johansen reports: I am working on making a new outside Bulletin Board. I have repaired the outside entry door light.
Time 2029 -- Chief Astronomer Report
M. Saunders reports: We now have a (signal) cable from the Ritchie Telescope down to the entry foyer. We can now run the StellCam signal down to the entry.
H. Colvin: There is a CCD Imaging conference coming up in Portland.....April 10 and 17th.
Time 2032 -- Education Report
S. Ruhl reports: I have received a request from Kingston School to do some observing.
Time 2033 -- Ordway School Auction
(Secretary Note: Ordway school regularly requests an item from BPAA for their annual auction)
S. Ruhl: I would suggest offer them a family membership.
R. Heglund: How about offering a family membership and a tour of the Observatory.
H. Colvin: That's what I will do.
Time 2036 -- Awards Dinner
H. Colvin: Awards Dinner will be February 20th at Casa Rojas in the Pavilion. It looks like about 15 people have RSVP'd to attend.
Time 2037 -- High School Student Project
H. Colvin: He hasn't contacted us. We can't do anything until he contacts us.
Time 2039 -- Comments
M. Saunders: Should we do same for Rotary Auction.....just offer a tour of the Observatory and a Family Membership?
H. Colvin: Not something we have to decide now.
F. Schroer: The Chamber of Commerce has informed us that the 4th of July celebration is comming up......are we going to participate?
H. Colvin: We will participate, I presume, with at least a booth.
Time 2044 -- Adjournment
H. Colvin moved/S. Ruhl seconded, to Adjourn Meeting. Passed.
